Ponte Vedra Beach is home turf for the PGA Tour, which runs its headquarters right next to the course that anchors most golf trips here. It's a small, wealthy stretch of Florida coast with a lot of private club golf, but the one course everybody actually comes to play is open to the public.
Where to play
TPC Sawgrass's Stadium Course is the main event — a Pete Dye design that hosts the Players Championship every year and is famous for its par-3 17th, the "Island Green." It's a public course through the TPC network, so you can actually book the same hole you've watched on TV, though it isn't cheap and tee times move fast in season.
Ponte Vedra Inn and Club's Lagoon Course is a resort course attached to a hotel stay, and a good option if you want a full golf trip without competing for Stadium Course tee times on every round.
Most of the rest of the area — Sawgrass Country Club, Marsh Landing, Oak Bridge, Plantation at Ponte Vedra, Palm Valley — is private club golf. Good to know exists, not something to plan a public trip around unless you have a member taking you.
Where to stay
Staying on-property at TPC Sawgrass or the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club is the simplest way to lock in tee times. Browse hotels near TPC Sawgrass if you'd rather stay nearby in Ponte Vedra Beach or Jacksonville and drive in.
When to go
Winter and early spring bring the mildest weather for a golf trip to Ponte Vedra Beach and the busiest calendar — the Players Championship itself takes over the area in March, which is worth avoiding unless that's specifically why you're coming.
